Ladies In Hospitality

Created in 2017, Ladies in Hospitality (LIH) is most definitely the most important programme we have. It is a serious look at Indian hospitality from the female perspective.

At a time when equality in the community and workforce is the #1 conversation worldwide, our stated goal is to have:

  • Equal opportunity.

  • A safe work environment.

  • Better career prospects.

LIH is also, unfortunately, the most difficult programme to manage. Maybe when it started it was too ahead of its time; we think not. We have had multiple offline and online events, though until very recently, it was difficult to stay consistent due immense hesitancy from all of India’s hospitality sectors to convert their promises into action.

Yet we persevere. The Equality at Work campaign that kicks of this year holds the promise to bring real-world change at all levels of Indian hospitality.

Int'l Chefs Day (India)

Since Chefs Day was an international celebration from its inception by WACS in 2004, it ought to have been celebrated across all sections of Indian hospitality. But it became the fiefdom of the chef associations across India rooted in their orthodoxy.

In 2018, as widespread celebrations were not happening, we picked up the challenge to make International Chefs Day (ICD) as popular in India as the venerable Teachers’ Day (5th Sep), Children’s Day (14th Nov) and Mothers’ Day (2nd Sun of May) among others.

Our premise is simple, ICD belongs to everyone in a professional kitchen. Chefs Day is a celebration of being a chef. It’s not where we work or the size of the business, it’s the type of work we do that should unify us. Sadly, it is not a public holiday! Our goal is that by 2030, Int’l Chefs Day should be ubiquitous across India. We’ve already gone from a few hundred ‘knowing’ about Chefs Day in 2018, to 50,000+ chefs, cooks and culinary students celebrating it in 2022.

And if we’re doing something good for ourselves, then we should be doing the same for the community. Food donation and community engagement are important parts of ICD India. Here too, the numbers of meals donated has increased exponentially.

The ‘Chefs Ride’ this year is our first high profile awareness effort. We rode motorcycles across 3000 kms of India's Western Coast from Kanyakumari to Ahmedabad from 01-26 SeptemberVisit www.chefsride.in

Hospitality Quiz

In 2018, we asked this question, ‘what if we reward professionals and students with lots of cash and hospitality experiences to learn information that they should know by default?’ And so was born Hospitality Quiz (HQ).

Hospitality Quiz is the combination of the best gameshow experiences but focussed on hospitality professionals knowing their professional knowledge. It encourages attention to detail and the practice of staying updated on the latest news and trends. The COVID-19 pandemic was a welcome opportunity as it went online. This allowed contestants and campus across India to compete on a national platform with minimal expense.

HQ continues to evolve and is exploring new contest themes and formats to bring the fun element of quizzing alive for Indian hospitality.
